What is the "Science avec et pour la société" award?

The "Science avec et pour la société" (SAPS) award recognises universities whose Senior Leadership Team demonstrates a strategic commitment and proposes a project that meets the following three criteria:

  • Includes various measures based on the four priorities of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research
  • Establishes strong partnerships with professionals in the region
  • Includes a self-evaluation

How is the University of Strasbourg putting the SAPS award into practice?

The University of Strasbourg has structured its science and society activities around the Jardin des sciences, which shares scientific and technical culture across the Alsace region, and the Open University of Strasbourg (OPUS) initiative. The university also launched the Tactus project, jointly led by the Jardin des Sciences, OPUS and the Communications Office (Direction de la communication), which is organised around three pillars:

Pillar 1 (in partnership with the Université de Haute-Alsace) – Strengthening links between researchers and the public throughout Alsace

  • Establishing a network of "science in society" players in Alsace
  • Developing mobile resources for scientific mediation
  • Designing a programme of scientific cultural events in Alsace

Pillar 2 – Implementing more targeted measures to support the university community

  • Organising seminars and training sessions on scientific mediation and intermediation
  • Involving students in research and participatory science
  • Recognising the commitment of the university community and the public

Pillar 3 – Organising the university's scientific communication in the media

  • Connecting the worlds of science and the media
  • Creating a "Sciences" column in the Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace (DNA) and L'Alsace newspapers
  • Producing videos and podcasts for social media
